Programmer and Copier for NodeMCU (ESP-12E) and ESP8266 Wi-Fi Modules

PRG-A is an open frame digital programmer/copier of NodeMCU (ESP-12E) or ESP8266 Wi-Fi modules. The device works with no dependence on PC software and can be battery operated. The process of programming firmware is simple and requires one or two steps. First, use one NodeMCU, programmed with the required firmware as a template. Insert it into the programmer and push a button to copy the code. Second, replicate the code to other modules as many times as required. The firmware is saved into the device until replaced by another copy.
Copying and programming is verified by a 32-bit CRC generator in the hardware and therefore it is a highly reliable process. The CRC code is displayed on the LCD, so it can be referenced to the application code by a written note which can be applied under the programming button.
The programming or copying process always involves three stages: erasing, programming/copying, verifying. The progress of each stage is displayed on the LCD.

The programmer can be connected to other programmers by the provided board edge connectors. This will form a gang programmer of any size. In a gang programming configuration, the power to the programmers can be provided by any of the USB connectors. Also, any of the Program buttons can be used to start the simultaneous programming process. However, before using the gang programmer each channel must be individually updated with the required firmware version by using its own Copy button. In a gang programmer all channels will work in parallel with similar speeds. Small difference in speed is possible due to variations in the flash memory timing of the ESP8266.

The PRG-A0 programmer is provided with the assembly kit for the optional connector cable adapter (PRG-C0). The adapter can be used to connect the programmer to a production fixture or to a Tag-Connect cable TC2050-IDC-NL for direct in-circuit programming of devices containing the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module.
